How many times have you found yourself completely and utterly bored, be it at your workplace or home or any other place? Lots of times, right!

It may be due to the lack of stimulating work or plain disinterest on your part, it could even be the bland work environment for some or simply the lack of enthusiasm for some…. the reasons could be many, but the outcome is the same, Boredom!

For all those of us have used the catch phrase ‘I am bored to Death!’ on many occasions, here’s an eye opener! According to a study by a team of researchers at the University College London, it was found that 40% of the people who often complain of boredom are likely to die young of heart diseases and stroke, as opposed to those who were found to be satisfied and enthusiastic about their jobs.

The team of researchers who studied 7000 civil servants over a period of 25 years, found that boredom gave rise to activities such as smoking, drinking which threatened to cut short their life expectancy! The research group led by Martin Shipley, found that people who were stuck in a ‘boring’ routine usually got addicted to unhealthy activities such as smoking and drinking, as a means to break the routine! The survey also found that women were twice as more likely than men, to be affected by boredom. Even young employees with simple, plain, routine inducing jobs were asked to seek interests outside their jobs to avoid the life-threatening boredom!

So the next time you find yourself bored at work, try moving around a little, talking to your colleagues, indulge in your hobby if work permits etc… Do whatever you can to drive away that boredom for your life’s sake! Literally.
