In what seems like heaven sent news for Sea food lovers, researchers at the Centre for Paralysis Research in Indiana have begun research on the topic of paralysis prevention by using lobsters! This was after scientists discovered that a simple sugar found in the lobsters shell is useful in repairing damaged spinal cords.

The sugar found in the shell would be mixed with sterile water and then injected into the bloodstream where it would migrate to the spinal cord and plug holes in the coating of the nerve cells, thereby repairing the damage that caused the paralysis to occur in the first place. Richard Borgens, Centre director for Centre for Paralysis Research in Indiana was quoted “Using chemicals to repair the damaged nervous system is a completely new way to treat people. Science has moved in a new direction. Previously we have been looking at drugs which would potentially reduce damage. Now we are looking at complete repair”.

Yet, what remains to be seen is whether the trials and research actually succeed in coming up with a safe and accurate treatment for paralysis, using the lobsters shell! For if something like this were to happen, sea lovers would sure love to have a healthy reason to gorge on their beloved ‘Zhinga’.
