You don’t need to be a Superhero to save lives now. All you need to do is donate blood once a while to save three lives! The above stated is a statistic backed by the American Red Cross which encourages blood donations.
However as we speak about the importance of blood donation on the 14th of June which is the World Blood Donor Day, we Indians are still constellations away from having enough and safe blood supplies in our hospitals. This is because developing countries such as India collect only 38% of the 80 million units of blood that is donated every year, according to figures stated on the official World Blood Donor Day website. What this means is that we face an acute shortage of blood supply in India, when it is needed the most i.e. during emergencies, which could very well mean the difference between Life and Death for some!
With experts saying that donating blood 4 times a year is perfectly fine, one must also ensure that the blood donation camp is making use of sterile and disposable vials and needles, for collecting blood. You should also be above 18 years of age and over 45-50 kgs of weight to donate blood; other conditions require you to not have a high blood pressure and diabetes if you want to donate blood.
