Pelvic Lifts:
When it comes to sex, the pelvic area is of prime importance as for both men and women the sexual organs are situated in the pelvic region. Thereby through the strengthening and exercising of the pelvic region one can be assured of improved endurance and a prolonged sexual experience!
Pelvic lifts are mostly floor exercises which train the core muscles – pelvic muscles; a repetition done 4-5 times is enough to strengthen the muscles. A well exercised pelvic region is strong and this means a direct increase in your endurance.
How to do it: Pelvic lifts can be done by lying on your back on the floor with your knees bent and slightly apart. Your feet should be positioned flat on the floor and your arms should be in line with your side. Inhale air and clench your stomach and hips inwards, slowly lift your pelvic region off the floor until your back is in a straight line. Hold this position for 10 seconds before gradually exhaling and going back to your original position on the floor.
This exercise should be repeated about 4-5 times for maximum benefit.
Kegel Exercises:
Named after Physician Arnold Kegel, the Kegel Exercises are done to strengthen the inner sex muscles which are active only during a round of intense sex. Strengthening these sex muscles is especially beneficial for women and helps them reach an orgasm more easily, while men can do these exercises for increasing the time taken by them to ejaculate, thereby increasing their endurance and sexual experience. Pubococcygeal muscles (PC) or sex muscles, which lie in the pelvic region, when exercised during the Kegel are strengthened and ensure improved endurance and tight sex muscles which help heighten pleasure during intense sex.
How to do it: Kegel exercises can be done anytime and anywhere! These exercises are to be done while in a sitting position, wherein you inhale and squeeze your pelvic muscles for 5 seconds – as though you are stopping the flow of urine, and release as you exhale.
To start with, Kegels can be done about 10-20 times, gradually moving in the range of 100-150 repetitions. A month of doing Kegels is enough to show improvement in post natal women, wherein they can notice tightness in the muscles which had become loose during pregnancy. While men notice an improvement in their ability to delay their ejaculation.
Butterfly Stretches:
For an innocuous sounding stretch, the butterfly stretch does a great deal! The butterfly stretch lays emphasis on exercising the inner thigh muscles, which are greatly active when one is having sex. The stretches work towards strengthening and making the inner thighs more flexible, it is also known to help with menstrual irregularities, urinary problems and for easing pain during child birth.
How to do it: The butterfly can be performed by sitting on the floor with the soles of both the feet touching each other and knees positioned far apart. Further, try to bring your feet towards to your hips as much as you can with your elbows bearing down on the knees to keep the pressure on your inner thighs.
To achieve maximum benefit it would be advisable to hold the position for about 60 seconds before repeating it.
Cat Pose:
The torso needs to be strong enough to withstand the pressure of vigorous activities involved in sex. Plus it needs to be able to support weight and pressure. Thereby the abs and abdomen need to be strengthened and there is no better ways to do it than the cat pose! The cat pose flexes and strengthens the abs and abdomen muscles along with working on your back too, strengthening it in the process too.
How to do it: The cat pose is a floor exercise which is to be done by getting on all your fours on the floor. Once you are in position, proceed by arching your back with your head and abs hanging in a downward direction, pull in your abs and don’t let your belly hang loosely. Follow this action by stretching your back and abs in an outward direction, this ensures that your abs and back get flexed and stretched.
While these are just some of the exercises that can make your sex life enjoyable and enduring, one must also remember to do cardio exercises and stamina building activities such as cycling, playing sports, swimming, running etc.
Remember to always be fit and healthy as sex is something to be enjoyed and not pushed aside due to stress and an unfit body!
