According to Hindu mythology, every individual has a limited number of breaths in his life. A man who concentrates on deep breathing, is required to take lesser number of breaths and therefore lives longer.
Well known gurus like Rishi Patanjali, Swami Ramdev and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar have always laid emphasis on breathing. Anulom Vilom, Kapal Bhati, Bhastrika or Sudarshan Kriya have one factor in common - Breathing in rhythm. The only difference in these breathing styles is the frequency and time interval in the breathing pattern.
There are three types of rhythmic vibration slow, medium and high frequency
How to breathe correctly?
Breathing is the simplest process which we all perform. Believe it or not but most people do not know how to breathe correctly. They are rapid or shallow breathers.
When you breathe correctly your diaphragm, your stomach and your shoulder expands. When you exhale it is important to exhale completely. We need to breathe like babies. They take in oxygen completely and exhale complete carbon dioxide. Slow breathing or deep breathing allows our body to re establish the natural rhythm. Breathing in slow rhythm fills the body with energy, calms the brain, soothes the nerves and brings about a state of mental tranquility.
In Jackie Chan Movies, the actor is always shown practicing deep breathing techniques so that he can deal with difficult situations that confront him. If we look gravely into this scene it teaches us how to deal with extreme stress by breathing correctly. Deep breathing gives us energy to combat physical and mental stress.
It has been noticed that in case of stress or when we are emotionally disturbed, our breathing patterns changes to higher frequency. We tend to breathe faster which in turn increases the heart rate.
The modern youth may find connectivity as day in and day out every individual is in a constant state of anxiety meeting deadlines, or dealing with various issues at a smaller or larger platform. They can feel the palpitations as they fear the dreadful outcome.
Changing the pace of breathing has consequential benefits. Our breath connects the body and the ethereal mind and deep breathing is the only means which would help us to maintain a state of calm or equilibrium.
Benefits of breathing in rhythm:
Deep breathing is simple to perform and people of all ages can practice it safely.
Deep breathing provides oxygen to all the cells which enhances their functionality. This increases the energy level and our immunity.

Breathing in rhythm ensures that the blood is rich in oxygen and it supplies even to the smaller cells of our body. When oxygen reaches the tissues of the skin it makes it glow. All women can now rejoice as only deep breathing can give them benefits of a facial.
When breathing is not correct:
Many individuals breathe too rapidly which leads to shallow breathing. Most often individuals are not aware of the fact that their movement and breathing are not in order.
- Breathing too quickly results in oxygen starved bodies. The cells do not receive adequate oxygen which leads to toxic build up.
- The lungs do not expand completely. Persistent rapid breathing may hamper some of their functions.
- Poor breathing causes or worsens chronic maladies like high blood pressure, headache, stress, sleep loss etc.
- Shallow breathing is known to offer poor mental clarity and learning disability.
It is truly said “life is a series of breath and Breath is life”. Rhythmic breathing will give a long and healthy life.
