Women who go on crash dieting generally suffer from hair fall due to nutritional deficiency. Well known Nutritionist, Pooja Shah from DENMAC says, “A deficiency in protein, iron or Vitamin B12 generally causes hair loss.”
Remedy:
Having a well balanced diet helps in reducing hair fall. Eating food rich in proteins, fiber and vitamins help to reduce hair fall. Nutritionist, Pooja Shah says, “Hair fall generally occurs with certain deficiencies in some important nutrients in the body. A healthy and balanced diet is an effective hair loss solution.”
Hair strand is made up of protein and hence protein rich food helps to reduce hair fall. Pooja Shah suggests “Proteins and carotene deficiency can lead to hair fall. Protein rich food such as milk, curd, paneer, cheese, egg, pulses, chicken etc should be added to your daily meal. Cheese contains high fat and salt levels and hence people with BP or individuals on a diet should restrict eating cheese.”
Any event that causes physical or emotional stress leads to hair loss. Studies suggest that hair loss occurs 2-3 months after the stressful event as the hair follicles enter the telogen phase prematurely; this causes them to shed hairs. Well Known Tricologist, Dr Parul Jaiswal from Aqua Wellness Centre believes that hair loss caused due to stress can be recovered once the stress has been removed
Remedy:
Try stress relieving techniques like pranayam and meditation. Performing regular exercise also releases the feel good hormones that controls stress and helps to reduce hair fall.
There are many medications that can cause hair loss. It has been seen that hair loss does not happen instantly after taking any medication. There may be a delay between taking the medication and the actual hair loss. The common medications that cause hair loss are anti depressant pills, blood pressure medications, blood thinners etc.
Remedy:
If you notice sudden hair loss after starting a new medication it is suggested that you consult the doctor and change the medications. At time the doctor may prescribe supplementary medicines to reduce hairfall.
