With sex helping us to burn calories, here’s another piece of good news, as sex is now supposed to help people have good skin! Sexologist’s world over have now added clear skin and healthy hair to the growing list of benefits of sex. But can one have really good skin due to a healthy sex life?
Sex for Good skin?
While it is widely known that sex helps one to burn plenty of calories and also helps in toning of the muscles, but does it help the cause of good skin? We did a bit of research and we found that this claim is actually true; in fact it even has scientific backing!
A study conducted in 1999 at Scotland’s Royal Edinburgh Hospital, found that an active sex life leads to a healthier skin and strong, healthy hair, as a result of which you look 7 years younger!
How does Sex help us in looking Good?
Now that we have agreed upon the fact that sex helps us in looking good, let’s get to know how….
- Improved Blood Circulation
Healthy Sexual activity increases the blood flow within your system. This increased blood flow results in your skin being oxygenated, which in turn helps with the elimination of toxins from within your body. With proper blood circulation the skin cells make ample use of the increased oxygen at their disposal, as a result of which the skin attains a clearer and healthier look and a glow!
In fact, Dr. Jane Halliwell, a well- known dermatologist is of the view that if one were to combine the many physiological and psychological benefits that one derives from sex, it could very well be compared to the benefits one derives from a week well- spent at the spa!
Sex not only gives you a clearer skin, but also takes care to ensure that those nasty bumps, otherwise known as zits, pimple and acne don’t appear! While it’s our natural hormones that are to blame for our acne, having sex is a great way of getting them under control. But that does not mean that you suddenly get rid of your acne but yes, sex definitely results in reducing them considerably.
As mentioned above, sexual activity results in an improved and increased blood circulation, which helps to eliminate the toxins from within the body. Not only this, but your body also produces collagen during sex. Collagen is a form of protein and is needed by the skin along with Elastin to keep it supple, flexible and wrinkle – free. Excess production of this during sex, helps delay the onset of wrinkles and sagging skin, while reducing the amount of age spots and blemishes on the skin.
A healthy and active sexual life results in the release of the sex hormone Estrogen in females. Estrogen helps in stimulating and increasing the growth phase of the hair follicle, which leads to shining, strong and healthy hair!
As one ages, the skin loses its ability to retain moisture and becomes dry. However with sex, there is better blood circulation due to which there is an increased oxygen supply to the skin cells and better hydration, which helps prevent dry skin. While sex is a great way to hydrate your skin, it would be even better if you could drink the standard 1-2 liters of water per day while having an active sexual life, to battle age induced dryness of the skin.
Sexual activity also helps in getting rid of those annoying dark circles, as oxytocin and vasopressin, both of which are sleep related chemicals and are released during orgasms, help an individual to sleep better. Moreover a good night’s sleep gives our body the much needed recovery time, wherein it produces proteins which are the body’s building blocks. These proteins help in the repairing and building of new skin cells, thereby not only getting rid of the dark circles but also giving us a healthy skin in the process!
While the health benefits of sex are plenty, do remember to always use protection and be loyal to your partner.
