It may sound simple to figure out whether you have glasses but it is bit more difficult as your eyesight may be slowly degenerating and you grow accustomed to viewing objects in that manner. There are chances that you may not even realize that any changes have taken place unless you face phenomenal differences.
No one wants to admit that they need glasses, only when they experience changes in their vision they realize that it is time to get their eyes examined. There are many people who realize that they have vision problems when it becomes very difficult to see and after meeting the eye specialist they realize how bad their vision is. If your vision is impaired and can be corrected with glasses, you can enjoy clear vision again.
Some symptoms that will let you know that you have glasses:
If you suffer from frequent headaches or migraines that are not associated with any illness, ailment, injury or any allergy could mean that you need corrective lenses to help your vision. Frequent headaches can be caused due to extended periods of over exertion, trying to compensate for weakened vision.
If your eyes feel tired or watery after a short time period of participation in things like viewing a computer screen or T.V, reading etc it may be a sign that your vision needs correction.
- Inconsistencies in your vision
When you enter from a dark area to an area of light and if you feel your vision take longer duration of time to recover from the changes or have other inconsistencies in your vision, it could be time to have your eyes examined to see if corrective lenses might be the answer to your problem.
If you can see closer objects clearly but find yourself straining your eye to see street signs or bus number, there are chances that you may need to visit the eye specialist.
Another way to figure out if you need to see your eye doctor is if books or newsprint start looking smaller to you and you realize the sudden need to move the book or newspaper further away or closer to read its content.
- Driving at night becomes difficult
If you feel that you have sudden changes in your night vision and find driving at night difficult, it may be an indication that you may need glasses or have other eye problems that needs to be discussed with an eye specialist.
There are so many people who lack acceptance that they need glasses and shy from getting their eyes examined to remain free from the shackles of glasses. They have lived with their vision problems for so long that they believe that what they are seeing is normal and don’t feel that their vision needs correction.
Dr P. Suresh renowned Ophthalmologist from Fortis Hospital says, “Individuals who have seen well before, but not well over the preceding months may come to know they may require glasses. Some individuals are observant and realize they are seeing less than normal while some may never know until their eyes are checked as routine examination. Hence annual eye check up is recommended for all individuals.” Dr. P Suresh adds there are no exercises or other means available to prevent glasses.
