More the inches more the pain, high heel shoes tend to put lot of pressure on forefoot. This means that the body weight is not balanced properly causing foot pain. The posture which you achieve by wearing high heels does enhance your figure but is actually bad for your body.
- Apart from pain which is caused by using them for longer time you can also experience numbness in the foot sometimes. This is because of the insufficient blood circulation in the foot area.
- The tight fitting shoes can also cause bony growth near the toe joint causing bunions. The narrow close fitting shoes can cause hammertoes, where the muscles in the second, third and fourth finger are unable to straighten because of constantly being in bent position. Constant pressure and daily use of high heel can also damage your balls of your feet.
Back and Knee Pain
A Team of Harvard researcher’s has linked high heels with osteoarthritis of the knee. Walking on high heels puts a lot of stress on the back and the knee. The body weight pressure on the knee increases by 22 to 26% resulting in damage to your knee joint and increasing the risk of knee osteoarthritis. So, next time if you suffer from constant knee or back pain by using high heel shoes, do NOT ignore it.
Risk of leg sprain
The risk of leg sprain increases with high heel shoes. Women use high heel shoe on a daily basis and also ignore some sprain if experienced. But sometimes this sprain can also cause ankle facture or muscle tear. To avoid the risk of sprains, choose the heel inches carefully and also make sure that the shoe fits you properly and are not too tight or lose fitting to you.
Calf Pain
Achilles tendon is a band of inelastic issues which connects calf and heel to the bone. When a person walks with high heel shoes the tendon is tightened causing excessive strain on the calf muscle resulting into pain.
Some tips for High Heel Lovers:
- Use high heel shoes only on occasions. Avoid wearing them for partying and daily use.
- You can use ice packs for the calf muscle pain.
- Select the right size of the shoes. Most of the times, women tend to use shoes which are of wrong size.
- People with broad feet should opt for open shoes and avoid tight narrow fitting shoes.
- People who are overweight and suffering from bone problems should avoid high heel shoes.
High heel shoes come with lot of health risks which if ignored in the long run can cause serious health issues. For people with less height, a heel up to three inches is ideal instead of opting for five to six inch high heel shoes. Flat sole footwear is also an alternate method for daily use and to avoid the risk of ankle injury.
